Clean Water Project

Our special mission project for 2011 is our clean water project, Lifestraws for Haiti. Proceeds from various fund raising projects will be used to buy Lifestraws for Haiti or other countries with a lack of clean drinking water.
The Lifestraw is a personal water filter, used like a straw, which filters out disease causing microbes. Lifestraws can be used to drink water directly out of a pond, bucket, or any body of water. The filter removes bacteria which cause diarrhea and other diseases. Click here for more details about this life saving device.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

A prayer shawl is a shawl, scarf, or blanket which is knitted or crocheted by a member of the prayer shawl team for someone in need of prayer. We pray over the shawl while we make it, and the pastor and church members bless its owner. A gift of a prayer shawl wraps you in blessings and prayers, and those who have received them feel the power of prayer in their lives. If you know someone in need of prayer who may benefit from this meaningful gift, contact Pastor Ed, Pastor Terry or Vi Sloan.

Music Ministry

Park Church members appreciate good music, and are exposed to a variety of music styles during worship. We have many talented members who share their music skills to enhance our Sunday worship. We have an active choir, and a jazz combo which plays regularly during worship. We welcome the participation of anyone who loves music. If you sing or play a musical instrument, we would love to have you join us for special music selections.

Feed Your Neighbor

Feed Your NeighborPark Church is an ongoing supporter of Feed Your Neighbor, sponsored by the Toledo Area Ministries. When grocery shopping, we suggest you select an extra item or two to donate. Donations are collected in the FYN basket in the narthex just outside the sanctuary and in a container in the lobby just off the parking lot. The food bank is located at the Providence Center (aka the Providence center for Social and Economic Empowerment ) at 1949 Broadway.
We continue to support this vital community mission through our gifts of food and money. We also participate with other south end churches in the Beverly Cluster Food Drive each October. Our FYN mission representative and volunteer Shirley Branyan delivers our food donations on a bi-weekly basis as well as participates in the distribution to those in need. We are grateful to Shirley for her continued interest and support of this important community service.

Sewing for Sunshine

Park Church has a group of regular volunteers who do sewing projects and mend clothing for residents of the Sunshine home. The Sunshine Home, located in Maumee, is a group home for those who have developmental disabilities. They have 75 residents at the main facility, 16 group homes, and 80 individuals who use supported living assistance.

Men in Mission

Men in Mission is a men’s group who can help with building and maintenance projects for members, friends or those in need. Some of their projects have been at the Sunshine home cleaning gutters, painting, building stair rails and siding. Another was at a recent home renovation for a young family who needed help with plumbing and electrical work at their new home.

Alley Oops

The Alley Oops is a group of retirees who help maintain the church with building and maintenance projects, including painting, electrical work or other challenges that occur in residing in a “mature” building. The Alley Oops meet every Wednesday morning and assist our part time custodian in yard work, cleaning and maintenance.

Green Initiative

Park Church has taken steps to become more involved in its environment by pledging to be more “Green” in large and small ways. Included in the Green Ministry is a new program including members and friends to “Buy Local”. Click to learn more about the advantages of buying local and to see a list of local businesses.

Youth Ministry

Maggie Maher coordinates our youth program for Jr and Sr high students. This ministry serves youth from around the neighborhood and farther, and all friends are welcome. The youth serve the church and community with regular work projects and fund raisers. Recent mission projects have included packing lunches for the homeless and collecting personal hygiene kits for area shelters. But the main mission of this group is to introduce young people to spirituality and the unlimited love of Christ. If you have a teen in your life who would like to visit one of our youth meetings, please contact Maggie Maher at the church office.
